Tian Wang (Amber) 王天
Tian Wang (Amber) is an emerging filmmaker and visual artist whose practice explores themes of memory, distance, and personal history through experimental moving image works. She is orginially from Shenzhen, China, and is now based in Shenzhen and Los Angeles. Her practices engage with the materiality of film, found footage, non-fiction, and experimental narrative, her work examines the intersections of familial relationships, cultural identity, and the shifting nature of communication in contemporary society.
Drawing from personal archives, letters, and oral histories, her films often reconstruct fragmented memories—layering image and sound to create poetic meditations on connection, disconnection, and the evolving perception of the past. By employing techniques such as multi-exposure, in-camera masking, and montage, she reshapes familiar imagery into abstract, immersive experiences. Her recent works reflect on the physical and emotional distances between individuals, exploring how technology, migration, and generational shifts redefine intimacy and belonging.
Tian Wang earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and is currently pursuing her MFA in the Film and Video program at CalArts.
